Plantd Biochar: Better Soil, Stronger Crops, Long-Term Carbon Storage

What if farmers could improve soil health, grow more resilient crops, and store atmospheric carbon in the ground for the long term, all with a single product?

That's the promise of Plantd Biochar.

Made from fast-growing perennial grass, Plantd Biochar has a naturally high silica content that supports plant vigor and crop resilience.

‍

Better Soil. Stronger Crops.

According to our Director of Agriculture, Dr. Janel Ohletz:

Not all biochar performs the same in the field. Our high silica content biochar has been shown to improve crop disease resistance and shows promise for delivering stronger agricultural performance than wood-based biochar.

Plantd Biochar also helps soil retain water and nutrients, improves soil structure, and supports healthier conditions for root growth. These benefits can help farmers improve crop resilience and productivity.

Applications include vegetable, berry, and fruit production; turf and golf; regenerative and organic farms; and clay soil remediation.

‍

Long-Term Carbon Storage

Beyond its agricultural benefits, Plantd Biochar provides durable carbon storage. As our perennial grass grows, it absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. When biomass is converted into biochar, a portion of that captured carbon becomes highly stable, allowing it to remain stored in soil for the long term.

The result is a product that supports agricultural performance while sequestering atmospheric carbon.

‍

Turning Manufacturing Waste Into Value

Plantd Biochar originated from our commitment to zero-waste manufacturing. By converting biomass recovered during the production of our carbon-negative building materials into a valuable agricultural product, we're reducing waste-disposal costs and creating a new revenue stream.

As our CEO, Nathan Silvernail, characterizes Plantd's approach:

“We didn't set out to build a soil amendment business; we set out to solve a waste problem.”
